The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ, Germany, was established in 1991 in response to the severe pollution prevailing in Central Germany, UFZ has become a worldwide acknowledged centre for research dedicated to remediation and renaturation of contaminated landscapes as well as preservation of natural landscapes. UFZ has the capacity, resources and experience to participate in this project and to take lead in advancing the particles under study. So far, UFZ has launched 98 EU-projects in FP6 and FP7 co-ordinating 43 of them.
